Shigeru Yoshida was and elite MechWarrior[4] and commander of the First Sword of Light from the opening of the Clan Invasion,[6] including the Battle of Luthien in 3052,[2][3] until his death in 3058.[1][4]

History

Battle of Luthien

Yoshida joined the other heads of the DCMS, including Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita, in weeks of defense strategy meetings after learning of the joint Clan Smoke Jaguar / Clan Nova Cat attack on the capital. ISF reports had alerted the commanders of the movement of nearly the entirety of garrison forces along the Federated Suns and Kuritan border. While in reality, First Prince Hanse Davion was transferring the units towards the Clan front of his wife's realm, centuries of conflict told some of those among the Combine forces differently. Accusing Theodore Kurita of being unlike his father and blind to the threat of the House Kurita's oldest enemy, Theodore told Yoshida that he was lucky Theodore was not Takashi Kurita, as his father would "...not wait for the Otomo to arrest you. He would kill you himself." Yoshida quickly apologized.[3]

Yoshida was part of the First Sword of Light when they, plus the Otomo and the Second Legion of Vega, engaged the First Jaguar Guards of Clan Smoke Jaguar and the 119th Striker Cluster of Clan Nova Cat on the Tairakana Plains.[2] For his part in the victory, Yoshida was the first to receive the Warders of the Dragon decoration from Coordinator Takashi.[4]

Tai-sa Yoshida and the First Sword of Light were offered OmniMechs at the Luthien Armor Works factory in April 3056. The tai-sa was the first to be offered his pick of the one hundred Inner Sphere-built machines, but Yoshida refused, as he believed his machine worthy to die in.[7]

He piloted a Cyclops during the Battle of Luthien and the failed Black Dragon Society attempt on Coordinator Theodore that cost Yoshida his life.[2][8] Yoshida refused an OmniMech in deference to a BattleMaster given to him by Coordinator Takashi Kurita.[7]
