Janella Lakewood was a nobleman and Paladin of the Republic of the Sphere.
History
Early Life
Born on Fletcher to Andrea and Sir Thomas Lakewood,[4] she attended Murchison Academy. There she received her military and MechWarrior training. Upon graduation, instead of joining Stone's Pride Regiment, she went to law school where she graduated third in her class.[1]
She became licensed to practice law, and The Republic found her very useful as a negotiator in certain disputes. She was known for working hard to solve problems without resorting to violence, though aware that there were times that might not be possible.[1]
As Knight-Errant
Her varied skills and impressive achievements both on and off the field of battle brought her to the attention of the Knights of the Sphere, who offered her a chance to be inducted into their Order.[1]
She traveled between worlds as a diplomat, troubleshooter, and tactical reaction for the Republic of the Sphere as a Knight-Errant.[5] She worked closely in her Knight-Errant years with Republic Intelligence, which included Paladin Victor Steiner-Davion and Ghost Knight Mason Dunne, who was also her lover.
As ever, her skill, tenacity, and achievements led her to pass through the Knight-Errant phase very quickly, and was appointed Knight.[1]
As a Knight
She was known for the battles on Basalt and Ronel in 3133 after the Blackout. She was responsible for naming Raul Ortega as Knight-Errant for his actions on Achernar.[6]
As a Paladin
She was promoted to Paladin in November 3134 to replace Daniel Peterson.[7]
Janella Lakewood took care of Devlin Stone during his final days before he was killed by the ilClan leadership. Afterwards, when it became safe she smuggled herself off Terra and tracked the path of War Party of the Nomad Republic. In time she was able to catch up with them while they stopped to onboard nearly a battalion of Hastati Sentinels. They were on the verge of collapse coreward of the Hegemony worlds outside the Fortress Walls Alaric Ward desperately needed to protect his crippled ilClan. Her approach in her Tundra Wolf gave the Nomads a bit of a start but, they celebrated her return.
Instantly welcomed back and brought to Exarch Jonah Levin, she began to help him strategize on how they can make War Party as successful as possible. Among the possible locations to search for RAF personnel they recovered Ariana Zou, reinstating her to Paladin. After much discussion they decided that the use of reliable mercenaries would be helpful in protecting the small fleet of ships and reduce attrition should they need to rescue more RAF personnel. Also, being a reliable mercenary unit might lead them to find more for RAF personnel with it. The next world they settled on visiting was Arc-Royal to meet with the Kell Hounds that have been trying to rebuild. With Clan Wolf-in-Exile returning to Clan Wolf, they would have the planet to themselves.
Calamity of the Kell Hounds
Arriving at Arc-Royal, War Party discovered that the planet was under attack by both a Lyran Alliance and Clan Jade Falcon force. Unable to make contact with the Kell Hounds, a force was quickly put together to skirt the main space battle and get to the Kell Hounds garrison. Janella was finally able to reach the leader of the Kell Hounds, Callandre Kell. The situation was so bad that without the Nomad Republic assistance to evacuate the Kell Hounds would be doomed between the two enemies who seemed primarily interested in wiping out the mercenaries.
Agreeing to the aid, Callandre issued the order for the mercenary unit to abandon the planet. Landing with multiple dropships, including a Condor, for medical aid, Janella initiated the defense while loading commenced. Learning that Callandre was trapped outside the walls by some Lyran mechs Janella gave command to Ariana Zou in her new Malice. Janella led in her Tundra Wolf alongside a Lament and Kell Hound Jaguar to rescue Callandre. Upon returning to the spaceport the emergency embarking took place and the dropships took off. [8]
Reunited
About a month later after the Kell Hounds had been rolled into the War Party command structure for an indefinite contract War Party took a pause in the Vindemiatrix system. Volunteering to bring her Tundra Wolf along if she was needed, the Nomads and Kell Hounds used a Kell Hound Overlord to land and do business on July 25th, 3152. Little did Janella know that one of her greatest worries would soon be relieved. While talking to another staff officer in the hangar of the Overlord the other officer looked over her shoulder. The officer smiled and said, "You'll never guess who." The seconds were a blur as the next thing Janella knew, she was flying into the arms of Mason Dunne.
With the hangar cheering on the reunion, thanks to the encouragement of Callandre Kell, the two embraced. Moments later, Callandre whispered something in their ears and gave Mason a shove toward the nearest lift. [9]
BattleMech
Lady Lakewood was known to pilot a red and gold[10] Tundra Wolf named Andrea[11][1] in honor of her mother.[1]
