James Forsythe was a VTOL pilot in the Thirteenth Stalking Horse mercenary unit during the Federated Commonwealth Civil War and Jihad.[1]
History
Captain Forsythe and his close friend Lieutenant Selena Rhodes both graduated from Sakhara Academy and flew with the First Ceti Hussars before leaving to join their commander's new mercenary unit, the Thirteenth Stalking Horse. The two decided that Forsythe would fly their VTOL in the new unit, even though Rhodes was an accomplished pilot herself, and thus rumors began to spread that the two were romantically involved. During the FedCom Civil War, the newly-dubbed "Rangers" duo fought against Katherine Steiner-Davion's forces in the Capellan March and racked up a sizable kill record by the conflict's close.[1]
Forsythe and Rhodes' shining moment occurred during the Jihad, when the Thirteenth Stalking Horse found itself fighting against the Word of Blake's Fifth Division on Sheratan. While the majority of the Fifth Division was tied up fighting the Thirteenth Horse's main strength, Forsythe and Rhodes were sent on a head-hunting mission. Forsythe carefully maneuvered his VTOL through hilly terrain before breaking cover just as the Rangers reached the Blakists' headquarters, leaving the surprised militiamen unable to prevent Forsythe and Rhodes from destroying or disabling every vehicle and BattleMech they had. While the Fifth Division's numerical superiority would eventually drive the Thirteenth Stalking Horse off world, Forsythe and Rhodes single-handedly destroyed two Blakist Level IIs before the end of the fighting.[1]
