History

Assigned to a territory that encompassed the Lyran Commonwealth and the Clan Occupation Zones,[1] the Tiburon Khanate grew to be the strongest of the Khanates;[2] the decade of active warfare that began in 3135 saw an increase in profits as the Khanate not only sold arms but also earned money transporting refugees attempting to flee and transporting the everyday necessities of life that the usual supply channels could no longer provide.[1]

In addition to being profitable, Tiburon's territory was also significantly challenging - Tiburon became an increasingly tempting target, and while few would attempt piracy against Clan Sea Fox most of the other Clans in the area attempted to obtain goods by Trial rather than by trade. The wealth acquired by the Tiburon Khanate ensured that it won the majority of those trials, however; opponents from Clan Jade Falcon or Clan Wolf simply didn't have access to equipment of the same quality as that the Khanate could afford to buy and use.[1]

Despite that the Federated Suns are located on the opposite side of the Inner Sphere to Tiburon's regular hunting grounds, the Khanate became involved in the Suns' politics following the death of First Prince Caleb Davion, when Gamma Aimag offered transport and escort for the new First Prince Julian Davion on his way back into the Federated Suns in 3145-46 in exchange for three Fed Suns' worlds.[1][3][4] [5] Even though the worlds appeared to be of little long-term benefit to the Khanate, the deal invited speculation that saKhan Andreas Sutherland was looking to acquire the worlds either to use as bargaining chips with the Skate Khanate or at the instruction of Sea Fox Khan Mori Hawker.[1] During the trip Gamma Aimag fought on Poznan against Home Guard forces and shattered the defenders.[6]

In March 3151, Delta Aimag traveled to the Scorpion Empire's world of Hamburg, issuing a batchall to obtain the technical specifications of new Scorpion 'Mechs, but OvKhan Lester Kalasa was soundly defeated by the Hellion Keshik's unexpected tactics, and lost the trial. Delta Aimag returned to the Chainelane Isles in July, only to face again Hellion Keshik, which had followed them. The Scorpions issued a batchall for Delta Aimag's JumpShips, including personnel and data. Kalasa underestimated the Scorpions, who defeated him and his forces again. The loss of the JumpShips, which were taken as isorla, meant the end of Lester Kalasa's career.[7]

In the time since the change of command, the Tiburon ilKhanate has stayed within the borders of the Lyran Commonwealth. They have been closely monitoring the relationship between the Inner Sphere nation and the Wolf Empire and Jade Falcon neighbors. In 3153, with the activation of the HPGs via the Discordant Mantle, counter protocol to Clarion Call, the saKhan has watched with great interest what the Khan of Clan Wolf will do next. Only holding the mantle of "ilKhan" for less than three years will change dramatically the way Alaric Ward is viewed by Great Houses and Clans alike.[8]

Composition History

3145

Note: In 3145, the Tiburon Khanate was based around the Potemkin-class ArcShip Titanic, with the various Aimags operating from a number of other ships. Alpha, Beta and Epsilon Aimags were all operating from Merchant Carrack-class transports—the Argo, Naglfar, and Matahourua, respectively—while Gamma Aimag was based around the Lola III-class destroyer Caleuche and Delta Aimag was based around the Volga-class transport Liberator.[9]

Color Scheme and Insignia

Tiburon Khanate paints its units dark blue with teal highlights. Some units, especially those in Gamma Aimag, use a dark grey-green and use sea turtle shell patterns to decorate panels, each of which represents a victory on the battlefield or in trade negotiations. Successful warrior-merchants panels take on the look of armor over time.[10]
