William La Vonda was the commanding officer of the Second Company of the Second Chisholm's Raiders' Fourth Chisholm Light Tank Regiment during the Federated Commonwealth Civil War.[1]
History
During the FedCom Civil War, Hauptmann La Vonda and the rest of the Second Chisholm's Raiders were dispatched to take the world of Kathil for Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion's Loyalist cause. A significant portion of the Second Raiders were eliminated when their DropShips were intercepted on approach to the planet and the remainder were cut off from the General Motors BattleMech facility that was their primary objective by the forces of the Sixth Syrtis Fusiliers. Hauptmann General Helen Eisner's response was to break her troops down into smaller units capable of flowing through the Fusiliers' lines, with La Vonda's mixed company of heavy tanks and scout vehicles chosen to escort a column of medical and support vehicles. Despite these precautions, La Vonda's men were ambushed on approach to a supposed gap in the enemy lines by a lance of Fusiliers assault 'Mechs.[1]
La Vonda ordered his scouts and the supply vehicles to race ahead towards the GM plant before turning his heavy tanks around in order to engage the Fusiliers 'Mechs. In the end, only two of La Vonda's tanks survived the clash, but they managed to destroy half of the enemy lance while critically damaging the remaining two Fusiliers. The supply column was also able to reach Hauptmann General Eisner's position, allowing the Second Raiders to turn the GM plant into its base of operations and begin preparing for further assaults against Kathil's capital city.[1]
