Wendy Holmes was a notable VTOL pilot in the Free Worlds League Military during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History
When Clan Wolf invaded Autumn Wind during the 3138 phase of Operation HAMMERFALL, then-Lieutenant Holmes and her fellow VTOL pilots were tasked with evacuating the planetary leadership after the militia's defenses collapsed. While proceeding out of Galveston City, Holmes' commanding officer was shot down when three Wolf Dasher II BattleMechs cut off the VTOLs escape route. Taking command of the surviving VTOLs and evacuation craft, Holmes lead the Wolf 'Mechs on a cat-and-mouse chse for nearly half an hour, weaving through the city's environments and leading the hostile forces onto Hector Lombard Park's Panoply Bridge. The Bridge proved incapable of supporting 120 tons of BattleMechs and collapsed, plunging the Dashers into Felton River and buying three hours for Holmes to complete the evacuation of her civilian VIPs.[2][3]
Before the action on Autumn Wind, Holmes had been honing her piloting skills throughout her youth, even going so far as to work as an aerobatic pilot before joining the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth's militia. Promoted to captain in 3144, Holmes also earned a post at the Stewart Aerodrome, where she became the lead instructor for teaching cadets the art of VTOL combat.[1]
