Vellant Deedman was the Duke of Hoonaar in 3056.[1]
History
During the early 3050s, a joint expedition involving a team made up from representatives of both Gronholt and the neighboring world of Hoonaar found extensive gem and mineral deposits on the southern of Hoonaar's two continents. Initially, the governments of both planets responded very favorably, seeing the prospect of future wealth for both worlds; however, Duke Vellant Deedman subsequently refused to share any of the resources or proceeds with the government of Gronholt.[1]
Baroness Jennifer Tsanma of Gronholt attempted to negotiate with Duke Deedman, and when that was unsuccessful, the Baroness called for arbitration by the Federated Commonwealth government. However, the government at the time was distracted by the Clan Invasion and the arbitration available was equally unsuccessful. Incensed, the Baroness resorted to hiring mercenaries and launched a planetary assault to take control of Hoonaar. By 3056, the Baroness and her forces had seized control of southern Hoonaar, but had failed to gain any ground on the northern continent due to the resistance offered by the Hoonaar Planetary Militia. As a result, the Baroness continued to recruit mercenaries for further attacks in 3056 while Duke Deedman made appeals to the Commonwealth government for assistance.[1]
