Valentinus Zhan was a notable MechWarrior in the Marian Hegemony's III Legio.[1]
History
Principes Zhan did not serve in the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces because he enjoyed the military life, but because his family's estate on Hazeldean had an insatiable need for new slaves to work its fields. When raiding planets for captives, Zhan preferred to attack unaffiliated Periphery worlds where he believed the citizenry would appreciate the "better" life of a Hegemony slave. Conversely, he disliked taking prisoners from the Free Worlds League because their ideology clashed too much with the realities of slavery. While Zhan was a skilled MechWarrior, it was his hope to one day pass his BattleMech on to a niece or nephew so that he could take a post in the Hegemony Senate.[1]
