The Tarise is a large mammal found on the world of Maxwell within the Free Worlds League.[1]
Description
Aside from the prehensile snout, the tarise resembles the bovines of Terra and fill many of the same niches. They are used as beasts of burden and meat animals on Maxwell and several nearby worlds,[1] by 3136 as distant as Denebola.[2] On some worlds, they are regarded as holy avatars.[1]
Domesticated tarise are placid and friendly. Often pestering their handlers for fruit and treats. They are also able to follow simple spoken commands.[1]
Wild tarise, while not aggressive, are very territorial. Bull tarise will try to scare off any intruder from approaching their herd. However, the most dangerous members of the herd are the gigantic matriarchs, some weighing up to two tons, who jealously guard their young.[1]
