Taras Calvert was a notable assault vehicle commander in the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History
When the Draconis Combine hired a battalion of mercenaries to conquer the Federated Suns world of Franklin on its behalf, Chu-i Calvert was assigned to lead a company of the DCMS' accompanying pacification forces. On numerous occasions, the mercenaries would trick Franklin's militia into attacking them while Calvert's entrenched assault vehicles dealt significant damage to their formations. While irregular units began targeting Calvert's machines and ultimately forced their withdrawal from the field, the damage done to the militiamen before that point ensured that all resistance to the Combine's occupation was eliminated in only a few weeks.[2][3]
Calvert was later decorated for his service in eliminating the Franklin militia, primarily because his willingness to work closely with the mercenaries' Major Barker lead to the success of the campaign. His ideas on how to lure defending forces into going on the offensive and being crushed by the Combine's own defenders soon spread throughout the New Samarkand Regulars and—according to Republic of the Sphere intelligence analysts—were likely to see service all along the Draconis Combine–Federated Suns border.[1]
