Stephen Belleau was a notable tank commander in the Hastati Sentinels during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History
During the Capellan Crusades, then-Lieutenant Belleau was a member of the Acamar Republic Standing Guard when the Capellan Confederation raided the world in 3112. Tasked with intercepting a lance of enemy BattleMechs, Belleau had each of his three platoons of tankers configure their weapons for different effective ranges, intending to wear down the hostile force enough to achieve victory. While Belleau's first platoon engaged the 'Mechs from long range with their armor-piercing munitions, his hopes that the foe would retreat after being discovered proved unfounded and his crews' accuracy suffered due to the enemy's stealth armor. Fortunately, Belleau's secondary force was able to maul their opponents with PPC fire while relying on their speed to maintain a safe distance, before Belleau's personal platoon raced in to entrap the beleaguered lance. The enemy unit finally disengaged when its commander's Cataphract was eliminated, giving the militiamen their victory.[2][3]
After the Acamar raid, Belleau was promoted to the rank of major and awarded for his performance before receiving a transfer to the Hastati Sentinels Brigade. Belleau eventually commanded an entire cavalry battalion, which included combat vehicles, armored infantry, and BattleMechs. He also became known for his vocal criticism of Devlin Stone, with it being his belief that Stone's disarmament policy was responsible for the Capellan Crusades in the first place. When the Blackout hit in 3132, Belleau died in service of the Republic of the Sphere, leading an ad hoc defensive force in a failed bid to save one of the few HPG stations struck by direct ground attack.[1]
