The Solaran Spectator was a newspaper which covered the arenas of Xolara, Burgton, and the surrounding areas.[1]
Overview
Housed in the four-story Spectator Building, the Solaran Spectator (or simply Spectator) rated and ranked everything related to the 'Mech matches of The Reaches. Fans, insiders, and bookies followed the newspaper's reviews, which gave them a lot of power, though they were quite free of outside influence and corruption. Because good or bad press could make or break famous Solaris Games players, reporters were well paid to make them less susceptible to bribes—though unknown to most, spies were sometimes hired to keep tabs on them.[1]
The Solaran Spectator would provide an overview of the five years in the arenas during the FedCom Civil War for a Meier-Star Agency tour guide to Solaris VII.[2] Warrior magazine would quote the Solaran Spectator's opinions of stables like the Banshees[3] and DeLon Stables heavily.[4]
Circa 3067, each issue of the Solaran Spectator was sold for 2 Kroner in Silesia and Montenegro; 5 Kroner in Kobe, Cathay, and Black Hills; and 7 Kroner everywhere else.[5]
Issues
- Monday 30 June 3067 - The frontpage of this issue featured stories on the supposedly pro-Davion controversy surrounding the Star League Defense Force-sponsored Class Six Arena being constructed by Interconnectedness Unlimited and the completed restoration of the Steiner Stadium, restored as if the infamous Searcy vs Vandergriff match had never occurred. Aside from an ad for a 20% sale at Randal's, other sections of the issue included an interview with reigning Champion Kelley Metz, Whitting Watch, the possibility of Blair Atholl being the next Game World, a review of the Gladiator XI and Stephani Toryl's efforts in Kobe.[5]
