Shawn Phillips was an officer of the 15th Dracon Regiment.[1]
History
Shawn was orphaned at a young age by an AFFS counterattack (after 3001) on his home planet of Lincoln V.
He was adopted by a sergeant in the repair section of the 15th Dracon Regiment, which was then stationed on Lincoln V for R & R.
Shawn learned BattleMech combat from the ground up, first working repairing damaged 'Mechs, then rebuilding those destroyed but shipped back from the front, finally being able to built his own from spares and cannibalized parts.
During the years he has ascended finally leading his own company (Phillips' Company) that is part of Ling's Battalion. His 'Mech's uniqueness has caught many opponents by surprise over the years.[1]

Notes
Given that Lincoln V was previously held by the Federated Suns, it stands to reason this counterattack followed the 3001 invasion by the Capellan Confederation.
