Samantha was a notable ProtoMech pilot in the Clan Coyote Touman during the Jihad Era.[1]
History
Warrior Samantha was a middling MechWarrior before the Coyotes acquired ProtoMech technology and she was eager to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the new ProtoMech program. Over several years of testing, equipment failures, poor command decisions, and combat hazards, Samantha provided the Coyote scientists with a treasure trove of performance data and genetic information for a possible ProtoMech pilot Phenotype. In return, Samantha received numerous injuries that her Clan—taking advantage of her desire to return quickly to combat—used as an excuse to experiment with every possible kind of prosthetic. This lead her compatriots to joke that she was more machine than man, although her extreme mood shifts not only proved that she remained human but also damaged her Point's morale.[1]
It remained uncertain if Samantha's growing mental instability was due to traumatic injury or long-term exposure to a ProtoMech control interface. Both the Coyote scientist and warrior castes allowed her to remain in active service despite her shortcomings in a calculated effort to determine how long a ProtoMech pilot could remain combat viable.[1]
