Run, Locust, Run is a short story by Westin Riverside that was published in the thirteenth issue of Shrapnel.
Plot Summary
On a planet in the Capellan Confederation, the mercenary MechWarrior Abby began a recon patrol. Her unit, the Garret's Freeboters, was doing a scavenging run into Neuer Wiesbaden, a devastated city on New Hessen, as part of Third Succession War. While she boarded her Locust, she thought about how many believed the Locust's pilots are crazy. She had barely get far away from the city when she was targeted by a enemy full lance. Though damaged, her 'mech evaded most of the enemy fire, she warned her unit, and used her 'Mech's great speed to escape crossing a canal. After reuniting with her unit, in the city, she made her 'Mech dance, celebrating her survival, and admited to herself than Locust pilots really are a bit mad.
