Resurgence - Home Sweet Home

From BattleIntelligence

Precentor ROM awakens many of the original Lightbringers

Precentor ROM Brek opened his eyes to see his homeworld. He longed to see Obeedah again. Using the various levels of encryption it’s HPG was able to communicate on occasion with Word of Blake personnel. As his fleet continued to jump into the system, he could see from the bridge the clever defenses set up.

A huge debris field blanketed both the Zenith and Nadir points, hiding the space platforms and their unfathomably lethal arsenal.  While he was happy to be here, he regretted that his stay would be a mere two weeks so the fleet could be resupplied and continue to their objective.  The one thing he required was that the Manei Domini to be awoken to join his fleet would remain asleep until his arrival on world.

With a small escort his Farragut, the DarkSword, began moving towards Obeedah.  He could see a great number of vessels departing from the space station, moving towards his fleet.  They began docking and the resupply began.

------

It was a fairly smooth flight as the Aerodyne vessel brought him to the surface.  Most of the land masses were tropical in nature, meaning there were thousands of land masses scattered across the surface in the massive ocean. A simple name was given to it, “Waters”.

As he looked out the window, he could see various towns and factories passing by below the vessel.  He knew though, that he would not see much of the surface, ahead a massive structure stood, protruding from the Waters.  Beginning to slow down, the aerodyne craft found its way to the assigned pad and came to a vertical decent.

After landing, he was escorted off the craft by the facility Commanding Officer and led to a Maglev system.  It was single car, he could hear the humming of the electricity and magnets below the line.  He was impressed by the pure white color of the car, unfazed by the ocean air.

“Precentor ROM Brek, welcome to Obeedah, or should I say, welcome home?” Precentor Limmat stated once they were seated with an optimistic look on his face.

“Indeed Precentor Limmat, I am glad to be here. While it is my homeworld, it is secondary to my objective here so, I must remain on task.”

“Understood Precentor ROM, when we arrive, you will see where Stone failed.”

Precentor Brek nodded as Limmat handled the controls, the Maglev car hitting a hundred kilometers per hour in a mere couple seconds. There was no reason to slow down, this car has the absolute highest priority and all other traffic was forced out of the way or stopped until they passed by.

They passed through kilometers of tunnels, the majority of them having a transparent hull.  Sea creatures that looked nothing like those on Terra or any other world he had been to swam about.  Some creatures were larger than dropships, lightning fast schools of fish zipping by, various sea life even built their homes on sections of the tunnels, and large floating masses that seemed to hover in the water, occasionally snapping a limb out to grab a careless fish.

A few minutes into their travel, a single track veered off, out of the main railway.  Almost going directly vertical, they plunged deeper and deeper, the outside water getting darker by the second.  Soon, the wildlife changed. Something much larger than the surface creatures was swimming by the tunnel and a couple of fish with lights, similar to on Terra, were slowly drifting.

Looking forward Brek could see the sea floor coming directly at them.  Without letting his nerves show, the car vanished into the sea floor.

------

A few minutes more and the car began to slow; suddenly a flood of light filled the car as they entered a hangar.  Dozens upon dozens of personnel waited by various workstations, all below a wall of pods that protruded from the monolithic walls above them, the majority had green lights, some red, others off entirely.

Both Precentors emerged from the car and all of the personnel snapped to attention, he took a moment to look around, then looked to all of the personnel awaiting his orders.

“These men and women of Blake have slept long enough! Wake them to continue his work!”

A thunderous “Blake be praised!” echoed through the chamber.

Some technicians began hammering away at keyboards, some began bringing medical equipment, others prepared each awakening station.  Background humming of electronic motors whirred to life as the pods began releasing from the various tubing and wiring, following a conveyer the pods began feeding to the awakening stations.

Slowly, the two Precentors moved toward the nearest station.  Each pod was unique based off of the capabilities of the trooper inside.  The one before them was a Battle Armor trooper. The open pod revealed a stale smell, all four of his limbs replaced with electronics and mechanical components. His nameplate read Adept XX, so it appeared some command personnel were being awakened first.

This trooper had an eye replaced with an optical lens.  His body lay there, completely still, then the lens flashed a bright green.  Slowly, his facial muscles began to twitch and move, various expressions showing.  His head then began to roll side by side.  Then his natural eye opened and began looking around in a panic.  He tried to say some words but it just came out mumbled while his face was making expressions similar to rage and anger.

Taking a quick glance at the console, Brek confirmed that the trooper’s cybernetics were still offline.  He could also see that the trooper was from a Shadow Division that had been defeated by Stone’s Coalition.

Various drugs were administered by the caretaking personnel as they handled the trooper’s severe reaction waking up. Looking down the line, a handful of Manei Domini did awaken in a calm state but, a few stations were dealing with rough awakenings.

When nothing else worked, they were about to put the trooper back into cryo, his rage filled voice had begun to increase in volume and coherency.  “Wait” Interrupted Brek, firmly, causing even the trooper to steady for a moment to see where the voice came from.

Without hesitation, the personnel stood aside.

“Adept XX, I am Precentor ROM Brek, here to oversee your awakening.  Do you understand?”

“Adept XX….” He said to himself….  “We were attacked on Gibson… They destroyed everything, destroyed the world…”

“Yes, and now you will rise from those ashes with your brothers and sisters to bring Blake’s Light to this broken Inner Sphere. Much has changed, we have rebuilt, and we need all of you.” Responded Brek firmly.

“Yes, Precentor ROM, show me my Tengu and I will lay waste to all the filth in my sight in Blake’s name.”

Brek nodded at the lead tech who reactivated the Adept’s cybernetics.  Numerous upgrades would be needed but, they were still lethal.  Helping the trooper up, and using a mechanical arm attached to the wall, the techs tried to get him onto a gurney but he refused, taking to his own feet.

He stood tall, stretching.  Still a hulking figure after decades in cryo, the improvements over time to the system preserved his remaining human flesh, muscles, organs, and bone well.  Standing at seven feet tall, he was a natural leader, he turned and headed for the hangar ahead where all of their equipment was preserved and upgraded over the years.

Other awakening Manei Domini saw his example and rose on their own, even if they had already been transferred to a gurney. Brek smiled at the sight.  This level of resolve and camaraderie would be very important in the battles ahead.

Both Precentors followed the path of the awakened Manei Domini.  As they entered the hangar that was even larger than where they just were, they could see everything – Battle Armor suits, racks of weapons, Combat Vehicles, and Battlemechs.  Just off to the side of where the two men entered; some technicians directed entrants to the Aerospace hangars.

It was a sight to behold, the vast space ahead of them in the hangar.  An Archangel Battlemech came to life, raising in height a couple meters as the myomer bundles filled with fusion powered energy.  A massive hand opened and closed its fingers, making a fist.  With a sudden and quick metallic scraping sound a retractable blade emerged from its sheath along the Battlemech’s arm.

Multiple clanking sounds on the deck among the Battle Armor suits began radiating through the hangar.  Three Se-irim troopers were moving about in their gear. Chatter could be heard by the troopers talking about being happy to return to their homes.  All three Minotaur looking suits were facing each other, running diagnostics, checking each other over, and talking for a moment.

Pulling the Precentor’s attention away, the much larger footsteps of Battlemechs walking were echoing nearby.  A Preta stepped forward from a wall gantry just a dozen meters away.  A few more recently awaken Manei Domini stopped moving further into the hangar to watch the magnificent machine emerge from its long resting place.

Malak Light OmniMech

It turned left, then right, moving its arms around; giving the appearance of an athlete limbering up for a competition.  Entering the lit up, designated walkway, the machine turned and began following a pre-lit walkway, clear of personnel.  One by one, an entire Level 2 stepped away from their wall gantries.  Two more Pretas, a Malak, a Deva, and a Grigori all began moving toward the dropship landing pads where they would assemble to join Precentor ROM and his fleet.

With a grin, Brek took a long look across the hangar, he spotted a Legacy step forward from its gantry, a pair of Shedus galloping along the walkway designated for machinery, and could hear fusion reactors powering up every few seconds.  He was sincerely interested in discussing with some troopers what they were thinking, knowing they were decades into the future, but it seemed like their last battles were merely days and weeks ago.

------

Emerging from the tunnel, the maglev car slowed to a stop among dropships on the tarmac.  Through the tunnel, the Precentors passed hundreds of awakened personnel moving towards their designated vessels.  A number of dropships already had Battlemechs, vehicles, and troopers in formation nearby with some even loading up.  Aerospace fighters were being towed and with giant cranes, being hoisted into the air and loaded.

“Precentor Limmat, you have done extremely well maintaining Blake’s warriors and all of this equipment, I congratulate you.” Brek stated, breaking the silence as the two watched.

“That is great praise from Precentor ROM himself, thank you.” Limmat returned politely.

“I will be sure to get this footage to the Precentor Martial as well, he will be glad to see it.”

“What will happen next Precentor ROM?”

“Well, I will continue on to ensure our plans are enacted and the Inner Sphere will both pay for its treachery and clamber for us to save them.  You will continue to manufacture components at this facility and be available for recovery as our warriors become injured in this corridor of the invasion.  With Sian destroyed and the implication that the Federated Suns and Free Worlds League were involved, if they haven’t already, the Capellan Confederation will invade its two neighbors.”

“I would find great joy in seeing the faces of the Capellan leadership when they find out their allies are not coming to their aid.  Blake’s light has been restored and it is already sweeping across these heretical nations.  Keep up the excellent work Precentor Limmat, while you ensure the loading progresses smoothly, I will return to my ship and prepare to launch.”

With a solid handshake, Limmat disembarked and made his way toward a tower that oversaw the tarmac.  Moments later the maglev car surged forward, taking Brek back to his own waiting vessel.

-----

Hours passed, allowing him to handle various reports and issue additional orders for Obeedah.  Deep cover agents had begun reporting their contracts were being enacted through the relay network and that the Capellan military was on the move. Then, it was time.

“Precentor ROM?”

“Yes, Captain?” Brek responded to the desk mounted communicator.

“We just received word from Precentor Limmat, the ships are ready to launch, all troops aboard.  Those vessels will launch once we take to the air, sir.”

“Very good, we have taken care of all necessary tasks, let us depart.”

“Aye, sir.”

With that, the space vessel began rumbling from deep inside.  Brek seated himself in his desk and brought up the various camera feeds in the direction of the tarmac where the Manei Domini were.  As they continued to climb into the sky, one by one, dropships began emerging from the hidden airfield underground.  Like every classic perspective, the great beasts rose on pillars of fire.

He sat back and enjoyed watching as the dropships coasted across the sky, falling into formation with his own.
