Resurgence - First Contact

From BattleIntelligence

Knight Niemeyer makes first contact with the Blakists

Shouting orders and giving directions through his external speakers Knight Nicodemus Niemeyer watched from the cockpit of Swan his personal Marauder IIC.  Dozens of civilians were being ushered into Armored Personnel Carriers by Infantry squads with various Battle Armor troopers patrolling.

He knew time was against them as he watched flashes in the sky as the aerospace fighters tried to harass and delay the inevitable landing.  A faint cluster of glowing orange dots were near the center of the flashes in the clear sky.  His lance volunteered to stay on planet in the event this was an invasion.

While the revelation that the Word of Blake had returned was bad news and the pending invasion worse news, the advanced units they had met on the field unnerved them.  Immediately, the volunteer Company that was going to remain on world if Nomad Republic had been able to continue on into the Deep Periphery, deployed around the spaceport to ensure no sabotage could take place.  As his Battlemech’s torso traversed across the small village the smoking wreck of a Lightray and Legacy on the edge of town marked where the brief battle took place.

One of his Mechwarriors in a Prefect had been killed as he engaged both Battlemechs in their surprise attack.  The Knight held them at bay as the rest of his lance could exit the town to engage.  A large pulse laser from the Lightray melted the Prefect’s cockpit, killing the warrior. His two remaining lancemates in a Stormcrow and Lament were patrolling aggressively around the town.

“Knight Niemeyer, this is Convoy Lead, we have everyone loaded up and all troops are aboard.”

“Solid Copy Convoy Lead, hold position as we clear the route ahead.” Niemeyer switched to his lance channel, “Ryke, Delton, have either of you seen any further activity?”

“Negative, sir.” They both responded.

“Roger that, head to the egress route, I’ll give the order to get the convoy moving.  I’ll stick with the lead vic, I want you two on the rear flanks.  Over.”

Thunderous footsteps of the Marauder IIC walked alongside the idling convoy vehicles.  Battle Armor troopers riding on the roof and sides watched the machine pass by.  As the Battlemech passed by the lead vehicle it began to increase speed to 60 KPH and behind it, the convoy surged forward.

As the final vehicles exited town, the Stormcrow and Lament swept in from the flanks and took up guard positions. Their next stop was going to be Cottonport, it was very likely this small town was a potential landing site based on computer calculated trajectories.
