The Mogami was a Liberty-class JumpShip. It appears to have suffered two consecutive misjumps, each of which suspended the vessel in jump stasis for over a century until it rematerialized at its arrival jump point, in a similar fashion to the SLS Manassas.
History
First misjump
According to log records by Captain Walter Wilfred, on 13 June 2758 the Mogami jumped from Shiloh to the Aquileia system's nadir jump point with four Mule-class DropShips each loaded to capacity with mirst and shuksam crystals, and another 500 tons in the JumpShip's own internal cargo bay.
The jump arrived at Aquileia, but came with a "massive electromagnetic surge" that damaged many systems. Nine days later, the first crewman reported head aches and vision problems. The entire crew subsequently succumbed to erratic, self-destructive behavior including Captain Wilfred, who in his last log entry two weeks after the jump wrote he, too, could now hear unspecified (implicitly imaginary) voices calling him.
The crew did not initially realize that the jump had in fact taken decades or possibly centuries. When they arrived, Aquileia was a dead and deserted system with no remaining infranstructure, the planet devastated by (apparently) weapons of mass destruction and quarantined by ComStar (a name they did not recognize). It is unclear when exactly the Mogami arrived, but the Aquileia system was still listed as a Lyran Commonwealth system as of 2864 and apparently dropped off the maps at some point during the Third Succession War. This suggests the misjump delayed the Mogami by at least 106 (and up to 282) years.
Executive officer Nada Lott, who had been dipatched to the planet to investigate the situation there, returned to the Mogami after communication was lost and found the ship adrift and completely vented, with repair efforts on the DropShips incomplete leaving none them capable of flight. Lott and the shuttle crew collected as much water and supplies as they could and left the Mogami on the other shuttle as it was fully fuelled. Their fate is unknown.
Second misjump
According to a second, more recent set of log entries, the derelict was discovered again by an Interstellar Expeditions survey mission under Dr. Micaela Corte to Aquileia in early 3046. They detected "unusual EM readings" from the mirst and shuksam crystals and found that the Kearny-Fuchida Drive Initiator was burned out in an apparent misjump.
After around a month of repairs with spare parts from their own ship, Dr. Corte planned to bring the Mogami to Callison and then to IE's regional offices on Denebola with a skeleton crew. They jumped out on 13 March 3046, but only materialized at the Callison nadir jump point on 13 June 3152 where the Mogami was immediately seized by Wolf Empire forces. Elements of Clan Sea Fox happened to witness the events and obtained interrogation records and the ship's logs.[1]
