Description

Generally known under its original name, Lindon's Company, this unit was occasionally also referred to as Lindon's Battalion or Lindon's Regiment depending on the unit's actual size at the given time. It was one of the smaller and less remarkable mercenary units, but they have successfully established themselves in the business. The small unit of light and medium BattleMechs was the remainder of another mercenary unit that was sent to their death by their then-employer, the Draconis Combine. Since then, their hatred for the Draconis Combine ran deep. They were destroyed during the Jihad.

The Lindon family was horrified to learn of the devastating fighting on Mars during the Jihad. Sarah Lindon's surviving family members did not reconstitute the storied mercenary unit.

Everything changed in 3144. By 3152, the new Colonel of Lindon's Battalion, Ethan Lindon, had a Union and Leopard, six battlemechs, a platoon of infantry, and techs and admin staff.[1]

History

In 3015, the mercenary unit Reilly's Armored Cavalry was sent on a diversionary raid to Driscoll's World under contract to the Draconis Combine. They did not know that they would be facing three to one odds without the promised reinforcements while their employer used the diversion to occupy an entirely different planet. Only a handful of mercenaries under Captain Owen Lindon survived and escaped to the Federated Suns where they formed Lindon's Company, and were subsequently hired by the Federated Suns.

In an extended campaign against House Kurita forces that must have occurred between 3023 and 3028 on Remis III, elements of Lindon's Company, together with the Third Davion Guards, were involved in an attack against the Black Widow Company near Coursadin.[2]

This is one battle scenario from the Tales of the Black Widow Company scenario pack. The mission objective of the Lindon's Company/3rd Guards player is to kill Natasha Kerensky. The canonical outcome is that the attempt failed, as Kerensky became a major character in the BattleTech franchise, appears in canonical novels set much later and eventually dies a hero's death in 3057. Since the battle took place while Owen Lindon was still in command it can be speculated that Sarah Lindon took command after Owen Lindon was killed or incapacitated in that battle.
The unit was presented with Owen Lindon still in charge in the BattleTech rulebook where it was first described, and which is set in 3025. At some time in or shortly after 3025, Sarah Lindon took command. She is first mentioned to be commanding the unit as "Acting Captain" in House Davion (The Federated Suns), also set in or around 3025.

War of 3039

In the War of 3039, Lindon's Battalion landed on Bergman's Planet to reinforce Special Forces troops that had landed earlier. The planet was conquered by March 16.[3] However, the Twenty-first Galedon Regulars arrived on the planet and after six months of fighting Lindon's Battalion was forced off the planet.[4][5]

The Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth helped Sarah Lindon's unit become Lindon's Regiment. In 3050, they were stationed on Kennard in Davion employ, commanded by Colonel Sarah Lindon.[5] They were sent out to the border with Clan Jade Falcon following the Truce of Tukayyid where they were beset by Clan troops almost as soon as they had set down and before their refit packages had arrived. Though they survived, they became Lindon's Battalion once again. In 3054, Lindon's Battalion was still in Davion employ, stationed on A Place and still commanded by Colonel Sarah Lindon.

When the unit's contract expired in 3057, Colonel Lindon surprised many when she accepted a contract with the Draconis Combine. She later explained that she accepted the deal because she wanted to improve Kurita-mercenary relations. Though they missed Operation GUERRERO, the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery installed Lindon's Battalion as peacekeepers on Caph. There, one Lieutenant David Longstreet from Lindon's Battalion was ambushed by Word of Blake forces while patrolling the Jersey Flats brushlands near Sanyo City on 20 July 3058. His life was saved by the inexplicable appearance of an old-model Highlander. A lancemate opined it had been Great Gaffa's Ghost, marking the event one of only around four alleged sightings of the famous ghost 'Mech since the Exodus.[6] Lindon's Battalion were only able to maintain some control before Coordinator Theodore Kurita terminated their contract in 3062.

Lindon's Battalion fought the Denebola FTM at Cimmeron at some point.[7]

Sometime after returning to Outreach, Jaime Wolf approached Colonel Lindon about joining the ranks of the Allied Mercenary Command. She agreed, and Wolf sent her and her unit to support the government of Liberty. There, the unit was immediately beset by terrorists. These terrorists were suspected of being in the employ of Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao.

Following the assault on Wolf's Dragoons by mercenaries in the employ of Wayne Waco in October 3067, Lindon's Battalion lifted from Liberty and accompanied members of the Dragoons and Dismal Disinherited to their ill-fated assault on Mars. Lindon's Battalion was wiped out to a man before they could ever set foot on the red planet on 8 December 3067.[8][9]

Tamar Rising

The Tamar Rising sourcbeook mentioned Lindon's Battalion on Galatea in 3151 where they were supposedly hired by the Alyina Mercantile League.[10] When this came up following the book's publication with the notion that the unit had apparently been reformed, Line Developer Ray Arrastia expressly clarified it to be in error,[11] so there is in fact no evidence in canon that the unit was reconstituted following its demise.

After the devastating defeat on Mars, Sarah Lindon's surviving family members did not reconstitute the storied mercenary unit. In time, the grieving families and remaining mercenary personnel of the unit had a decision to make as to their future. With no real "home" planet to return to they took to the stars as a contract mining company that mined asteroids: Lindon, LLC. Over the decades since the Jihad, a substantial amount of wealth had been accumulated.

A very enthusiastic and young man by the name of Ethan Lindon, quickly rose through the ranks of the mining company. Some might say his name paved the way but, his skills with the robotics on the mining craft were second to none. He even ran his own holovid channel in which he would perform precision movements with the large mechanical arms.

In time he was able to purchase and restore an old Battlemech training simulator. The second the system powered up and he began fighting the preloaded opposing Battlemechs, his future changed. Speaking with his father and mother, they authorized him to explore the possibility of setting up his own mercenary command and to restore Lindon's Battalion in 3144.

By 3152 Ethan had organized his own full lance of light and medium Battlemechs. Mining around the world of Rentz, his lance was taking on contracts to defeat raiders and pirates throughout the system. He had been able to purchase a Leopard dropship that he named the Lindon Lineholder. Eventually the time came to move on to a new system and Lindon, LLC booked passage on a jumpship with a lithium fusion battery. After docking their two Union dropships and the Leopard they were just waiting for the solar sail to retract and secure.

At that moment a number of ships began arriving at the jump point, like an invasion fleet. Right in front of them was the emblem of the Word of Blake on the side of a massive ship, something they hadn't even seen on holovids. The panicked jumpship Captain's voice announced an immediate departure and seconds later they left the system, then jumped again, moving 60 light years toward New Avalon.

From that moment on, Lindon's Battalion was restored. Seeing the value in their own personal guards, Ethan's parents moved all the mining equipment to one of the Unions. Now with a Union and a Leopard, it was time for Ethan's unit to expand. Over the next couple days they remained docked with the jumpship and the jump point became very congested from those fleeing the Word of Blake attacks. He was able to sign on two more fleeing militia Mechwarriors and a full platoon of infantry. Hiring on admin staff and techs also worked well for the growing unit.

At each of the jumpship's stopping points to recharge he recruited and completed contracts, be it in mining or mercenary work. Eventually reaching the Capellan March they got word in 3153 of the calls for aid on New Avalon and even recruitment of mercenaries for a Cameron Guild. With the fleeing jumpship captain going as far anti-spinward as he could, they booked passage on other jumpships to take them to New Avalon.[1]
