Karl Gramenov was the commanding officer of the Third Ghost Regiment during the War of 3039.[1]

History

Sho-sho Gramenov, commanding the Second Amphigean Light Assault Group, was stationed on Reisling's Planet in 3025.[2]

Karl Gramenov was noted as previously commanding the Amphigean Light Assault Groups.[3]

By the time the Draconis Combine launched Operation OROCHI during the War of 3039, Gramenov had been promoted to Tai-sho and commanded the Third and Fourth Ghost Regiments in the invasion of Breed. Landing on 15 July 3039, Gramenov's Ghosts began a hit-and-run campaign against the defending First NAIS Cadre and Second Robinson Rangers. By constantly shifting troops around the planet while simultaneously changing the force composition of his units between each new raid, Gramenov was able to convince the Federated Suns defenders that they were facing a numerically superior foe. When the FedSuns began launching offensive operations against Gramenov's Ghosts, Gramenov used his mobility to route the defenders of the Hebroun Military Complex and obtain thousands of tons of materiel to keep his troops in fighting shape.[1]

The Second Robinson Rangers, having lost a quarter of their force during the Hebroun Complex raid, suffered a severe decline in their morale that would last for the rest of the conflict. By the third week of the battle for Breed, the majority of the First NAIS and Second Rangers were ordered to withdraw to Robinson, leaving only volunteer MechWarriors and conventional units to defend against the Ghosts. Gramenov's men fought hard for the next eight straight days before the remaining Fourth Ghosts left for raids against other worlds, while the Third Ghosts maintained their hit-and-run attacks for a staggering three months. Only the arrival of Field Marshal James Sandoval with the First and Second Robinson Rangers on 1 November ended the fighting on Breed, with Gramenov choosing to deny his foes a total victory by leaving the world instead of engaging Sandoval.[1]
