Heaven's Door is a short story by Nick Marsala that was published as introductory fiction for Jihad Turning Points: Sian.
Plot Summary
On 7 January 3074, Word of Blake made a second attempt to seize Sian. This involved inserting troops covertly onto Sian over the course of the years since their first attempt in 3070. When the Blakists attacked, they faced a completely surprised opponent. Among the Capellan forces ambushed by the Blakist were the Red Lancers, which took heavy losses. Only Sang-shao Jerome Ling and his XO remained operational, when Ling realized that they were attacked by Capellan designs. Ling ordered his XO to withdraw and inform command about the finding, while he stayed behind to buy his XO time until he was killed.
