The Gant Republic was one of the Pentagon Powers, a collection of warlord states living in the ruins of the Star League in Exile. The Republic occupied a portion of Circe's southern habitable zone.[1]

History

The Gant Republic was an amalgam of various cultural, religious and political groups. No one faction managed to dominate the others, leading some to compare the state to a "miniature Free Worlds League". The Republic was ruled by Silas Gant, who claimed to have been democratically elected for life. Gant was protected by extensive fortifications and caches, while its military was skilled in defensive tactics.[1]

When the Clans returned to the Pentagon Worlds during Operation Klondike, the task of subduing the Republic was assigned to Clan Nova Cat. Khan Phillip Drummond had lived in the region that now constituted the Republic, and had witnessed Gant's early political career. Gant forces had advanced warning of the invasion due to witnessing the fall of the Emerald Kingdom and had been bolstered by troops from the Brotherhood of Fianna, but Drummond's knowledge of local terrain allowed the Nova Cats to move through what the Republic had been considered impassable terrain. With the enemy seemingly able to strike from any direction, morale within the Republican military rapidly collapsed, with mass desertions and infighting breaking out. President Gant attempted to restore order through increasingly draconian measures, but this only undermined the Republican command structure further.[1]

Before the Clans could reach Concord, a public execution of deserters triggered a mass civilian uprising and Gant's lynching. Instead of a clean conquest, the Nova Cats found themselves needing to restore order in a state that had disintegrated into a multi-sided civil war. Factions within the former Republic continued launching covert attacks on one another throughout 2821, with order only being restored months later by ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky's implementation of social reforms and a relocation policy.[1]
