Francine Powell was a company commander in the Sixth Periphery Guard during the Dark Age Era.[1]

History

Captain Powell and her combined-arms company of the Sixth Periphery Guard were undergoing arctic combat training on Bastille when the planet was raided by pirates in 3138. While her soldiers were too late to prevent the sacking of the town of Garfield, they were able to intercept the raiders before they could return to their DropShip and followed their lance of Zibler tanks in an assault against the bandits. Aiming to separate the pirates from their vehicles full of loot and enslaved Federated Suns citizens, Powell's forces successfully baited their opponents into abandoning their cargo and stumbling into their ambush amidst a series of hillocks. The first pirate BattleMech was destroyed in the initial salvo and the Guards' superchargers allowed them to prevent the two surviving machines from regrouping with the convoy. As Powell's MechWarriors defeated their foes, her APCs offloaded a platoon of Cavalier battle armor troopers who quickly eliminated the bandits' infantrymen and secured their convoy.[2][3]

Powell's aggressive attitude was credited with giving her company the chance to catch up with the pirates and it was her BattleMech that disabled the first pirate Brigand during the clash's opening salvo. Unfortunately, Powell's battalion commander later chastised her for failing to take a single one of the raiders alive, although the pirate's fanatical commitment to avoiding live capture was seen as unusually zealous for Periphery bandits.[1]
