Elsa Buchanan was an artillery commander in the Red Lancers during the Dark Age Era.[1]

History

When the Red Lancers faced off against the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry on Almach in 3145, Si-ben-bing Buchanan was part of the artillery forces responsible for securing the Lancers' victory. In order to counter the First FSAC's reliance on hit-and-run attacks, the Lancers' artillery constantly struck against the cavalrymen and forced them into repeated short-range firefights with the Lancers' BattleMech forces. When General Andrea Chapman sent a company of Fulcrum III hovercraft to eliminate the artillerymen, the Lancers' vehicles used anti-missile systems to protect themselves from assault before decimating half of the enemy unit with Arrow IV fire. While they had lost four vehicles in the clash, the Lancers' artillery continued to lock the First FSAC into place and prevented all but a quarter of the Federated Suns force from escaping off-world. Furthermore, the artillerymen's actions during the battle earned them a personal commendation from Red Lancers commander Sang-shao Cao Culverton, who praised their bravery.[2][3]

Buchanan earned particular praise for her part in the fighting after she ordered her vehicle to charge directly towards the FSAC hovercraft, crushing one of the machines under her treads. It was subsequently discovered that she had not only killed the enemy company commander, but that he was Thomas Davion, distant cousin to First Prince Caleb Davion. Buchanan was rewarded for her feat with a promotion to si-ben-bing and a posting as senior Non-Commissioned Officer for her platoon of artillery vehicles.[1]
