David Gladding was a military officer from the Marian Hegemony.
History
David Massena was born a commoner, or plebian, taken in by the patrician Gladding family and sent to the Collegium Bellorum Imperium. His adopted family did not let him forget his roots, and he nurtured an inferiority complex that gave him a wish to succeed at any cost. He also grew an ability to find his opponent's weaknesses and exploit them mercilessly. He was noted as a smart tactician and Hegemony supremacist.[1]
A younger Gladding met future Caesar Julius O'Reilly, befriending him out of ambition, but eventually found him a real comrade. Prefect of II Legio at O'Reilly's ascension to the throne, the young Ceasar promoted Gladding to Imperator, despite obvious objections of and over several generals.[1]
Gladding often set out to upset the senate, promoting Prefect Michael Alexander to the enviable position of their bodyguard in I Legio despite their mutual dislike.[1][2]
