The Commonwealth Religious Council, and briefly known as the Alliance Religious Council, is a bi-annual forum held between the major and minor religons that exist within the Lyran Commonwealth (and when it existed the Lyran Alliance) to discuss recent religious events and avoid feuds and conflicts between the various faiths.[1][2]

History

Though Lyran society is largely accepting of varied and different belief structures and relations between the major faiths are largely harmonious, they long recognized that misunderstanding and conflict was costly for all involved. To this end in 2590 the Commonwealth Religious Council was created to provide a means to allow dialogue and prevent the escalation conflict and maintain the status quo.[1][2]

Meeting every other year in Tharkad City's Lutheran Cathedral, the Council is headed by the ceremonious Chancellor of the Peoples, the five highest-ranking representatives of the Lyran realm's major faiths, as well as a body made up of minor faiths whose numbers are larger than three billion worshipers, to discuss events from the preceding two years that have spiritual overtones as well as means to maintain open communication between the faiths by reviewing various books and holovids that seek to educate non-members about particular religions.[1][2][1][2]

The council also has the agreed authority to intervene in spiritual conflicts between rival faiths that resort to open violence such as a clash between Catholics and Buddists on Arc-Royal in 3026, tensions between Muslims and non-Council member the One Star Faith in 3027 and the ensure a lasting peace following the so-called Quetta Land War on Bolan during the FedCom Civil War. Immediately prior to the Word of Blake Jihad, the then Alliance Religious Council was seeking to restore harmony between ethic Hindus and Muslims on Dar-es-Salaam following the combat losses during the FedCom Civil War that saw the promotion of fundamentalist Hindu Nicol Hujdur to command the largely Islamic Dar-es-Salaam Cavanaugh II Theater Militia.[1][2]
