Clarence Katsumoto was a notable flight commander in the Second Amphigean Light Assault Group during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History
Sho-i Katsumoto was part of a squadron of aerospace fighters during the Second Amphigean LAG's invasion of Lucerne in July 3144 and participated in defeating the planet's oversized aerospace defenses. During a final holding action to prevent the LAG from gaining an irreversible foothold, the militia deployed three DropShips and two Corsair squadrons to intercept an airborne operation comprised of a battalion of the Second LAG. Katsumoto and his comrades lead the way to the drop zone and quickly broke through the Corsair's protective cordon in order to assault their DropShips directly. In under a minute, the LAG attackers managed to damage a Union-class DropShip badly enough to force its retreat and its two Leopard-class escorts similarly withdrew once they began to take fire. The remaining Corsairs, their laser weaponry ineffective against the LAG aircraft's reflective armor, were forced to cede control of the drop zone to the LAG. Within weeks, the rest of Lucerne fell under Draconis Combine control.[2][3]
Katsumoto personally accounted for two destroyed Corsairs during the Lucerne operation and dealt the last blow against the Union-class DropShip before it retreated, earning him a promotion to flight leader. Katsumoto was also notable for being the son and grandson of yakuza members, being the first one of his siblings to reject the criminal life in order to serve in the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery. While he was popular in the Second LAG's aerospace contingent, his samurai superior officers held his background against him and were unlikely to offer him a promotion beyond sho-i.[1]
