Cassius Montague was a Word of Blake MechWarrior and officer in the Opacus Venatori during the Jihad.[1][2]
History
Born on the Lyran Commonwealth world of Blue Hole the fraternal twin of Byron Montague, both boys ultimately joined ComStar prior to the Clan Invasion. While initially both the Montague brothers chose to remain with the secular Order following the Schism, by 3055 the pair violently disagreed over the direction of the organization with Cassius choosing to defect to the Word of Blake on Gibson. His seemingly near total devotion to the ideology of Toyama and the Blessed Blake caught the attention of the highest ranks of the Blakist ROM, resulting in his selection for the fearsome Light of Mankind special forces unit. [1]
As of 21 January 3066 Cassius Montague held the rank of Adept when he was transfer to Precentor Martial Cameron St. Jamais's elite Venatori team, his natural good looks making him an excellent intelligence against diplomates, helping to ferret out enemy agents for the rest of the Venatori. Montague would also leverage his looks with numerous sexual companions, earning him the unofficial call sign of "Casanova" among the Light of Mankind community. As part of the Hunters Montague assisted the Level II in anti-WolfNet actions across the Chaos March and Word of Blake Protectorate prior to a successful hit against a Wolfnet safehouse on Outreach itself in 3067, remaining part of the Venatori when they would trump this achievement with the capture Heir-Designate Hohiro Kurita on Dieron. After careful maneuvers and then a four hour long battle, Cassius' unit was able to capture Hohiro. Not long after this, the Combine resistance on Dieron collapsed, the Venatori completing in less than a month what the rest of the Word failed to achieve in six months.[3] [4] [5]
By late 3068 the Montague and the Ventori rotated to Terra and training exercises against Apollyon's Manei Domini's counterpart the Opacus, the bloody rivalry resulting in "accidental" deaths and injuries. As of 21 January 3069 at the direction of The Master Apollyon's Opacus and Cameron St. Jamais's Venatori were combined into a single unit, the Opacus Venatori, with the combined unit sent against vaunted targets as the Loren Jaffray-led Ghosts of the Blackwatch and endless anti-Blakist actions across the Inner Sphere.[3] Montague was one of the members of the Opacus Venatori during Berith's mission to put an end to the Wolf's Dragoons reborn Black Widow Company under Stacy Church.[6]
With Berith seeking to overcome his humiliating failure to prevent the infamous Bounty Hunter locating former ComStar Precentor ROM Victoria Parrdeau and her secret filled journal for Chandrasekhar Kurita, upon learning Uncle Chandy was on the former Lyran Commonwealth capital of Arcturus preparing for Operation HIGASHIKUNI - a strike against the Hidden World the "Ruins of Gabriel" - Berith selected Cassius Montague and Kendali Morris to assist a strong Word of Blake invasion force seeking to eliminate Kurita and Bounty Hunter as well as recover Parrdeau's journal to preserve details of the Hidden Worlds. Thanks to the Opacus Venatori unwittingly focusing on a imposter deployed by the Bounty Hunter purely as a distraction the mission ended in failure, though this second disastrous failure was the seed for Berith's plan to get revenge on them both.[7]
BattleMechs and Equipment
Relying heavily upon his good looks during his intelligence operations, Cassius Montague underwent cosmetic augmentation in 3072. As this decision was made by Montague proactively out of vanity over his increasing age rather than self-sacrifice for the Word's ideals, he was not invited to join Manei Domini, though he largely considered that a formality that would come in time.[1]
Cassius Montague is known as a cursed MechWarrior, having gone through fourteen BattleMechs from 3066 to 3073.[1] As of the Venatori's formation in 3066 he piloted a STK-7D Stalker, before shifting to a ST-8A Shootist which he used during his time on Dieron.[3] [2] Upon the combination of the Opacus Venatori in January 3069 Montague had shifted to VKG-2G Viking still utilizing the same design in October of that year, before moving to a KCG-008 King Crab by February 3070. By Opacus Venatori's mission against the Black Widow Company, Cassius Montague piloted a MCY-102 Mercury[3] that he dubbed the "Messegener". After suffering extensive damage after a combat drop accident, while restored to operation Montague had to take a more hands-on approach to keeping its Improved C3 Computer functioning.[1]
