Overview

Starting as a freelance illustrator for WizKids and Catalyst Game Labs since ca. 2009, Brent Evans became CGL's Art Director for BattleTech and Shadowrun, and on 25 May 2017 became the new BattleTech Line Developer, with Ray Arrastia as his Assistant Line Developer.

On 13 September 2019 Ray Arrastia took over as Line Developer, and Brent Evans resumed the art director position

Evans worked as art director on multiple game lines for CGL, moving beyond the BattleTech art director role, and guided and trained several other artists at CGL.[1] When asked what he was most proud of as Line Developer, he said it was taking BattleTech past a certain preordained event into uncharted territory where the setting's future was not predetermined, after the authors had "written themselves into a corner".[1]

In early 2025 Evans announced that, after 15 years of working on BattleTech, he had reached all goals he had set out for himself there. Having been recruited for a computer game company, he was leaving CGL on good terms (he said Loren Coleman and Randall Bills had congratulated him for the new job). He had already trained successors for the art director position for BattleTech (Marco Mazzoni) and Shadowrun (Ian King) and had created a plan to keep CGL's creative processes, in which he was deeply involved on all levels, on track. As part of this he would continue to do some work for CGL as an advisor, and continue to direct the current mapsheet team. He also said he considered submitting BattleTech art in the future,[1] as he still considered himself a huge BattleTech fan.
