Overview

Romulus was in the second wave of targets during Operation ICE STORM as Clan Ice Hellion sought to carve out their own occupation zone from Clan Jade Falcon holdings.

Clan Ice Hellion Invasion

In a July assault led by Khan Raina Montose's personal Cluster, the Seventh Attack Cluster, the Ice Hellions slammed into the defending First Falcon Hussars. The constant slashing hit-and-run attacks through the Hussars into disarray in the fighting around the rebuilding Remus City (which had been leveled with orbital bombardment in 3050[1]). As in other planets, the Hellion OmniMech played a key role in the early successes of the Ice Hellions. They especially shined as headhunters, where they hunted down and eliminated Hussars commander Star Colonel Paulo Pryde and many of his Star Captains. This loss of command continuity forced the Hussars to retreat off world.[2][3]

As the initial invasion force moved on to other targets, the Hellions left garrisoning forces. These eventually consisted of the 53rd Striker Irregulars and 150th Hellion Lancers.[3]

Clan Jade Falcon Counterattack

Preparations for the Jade Falcon counterattack began in December 3072 when Delta Galaxy left Seiduts (ironically leaving just prior to Zeta Prime's assault) began their transit towards Romulus. Following their reconquest of Derf and Winfield, Alpha Galaxy joined Delta to assist. In early January the two Galaxies landed unopposed and smashed what organized defenses the 53rd Striker Irregulars and 150th Hellion Lancers were able to mount. The 53rd Irregulars than surrended en masse and were taken as bondsmen, with their commander Star Colonel Ward Tyler providing saKhan Samantha Clees with the information needed to run down the still-resisting 150th Lancers. Using Alpha Galaxy as a decoy to lure the Lancers out, Delta Galaxy flattened the Lancers with a flanking maneuvor. This battle left no surviving Hellion officers, so MechWarrior Micah (whose Drift Shag went down to an Alpha Galaxy Kit Fox) was given his first order as a bondsman to inform the Hellions of their defeat.[3][4][5]

Outcome

Following the counterattack, the Falcons retained control of the world. While a more definitive date for the counterattack is not known, saKhan Conner Rood was made aware of the outcome on 28 January. Rood also noted this lose severed the last link of his task force to Khan Montose's taskforce, forcing him to fall back to the Dark Nebula and consolidate what forces he could for a return to the Clan Homeworlds.[6]
