Overview
Errai had been used as a supply depot and jump-off world for the War of 3039, and in 3042, the Ninth Dieron Regulars gained intelligence that large amounts of that matériel remained in warehouses on Errai. A battalion of Regulars, including a reconnaissance company led by a lance of Locusts, was sent to salvage what they could and destroy the rest. The planetary garrison, Stirling's Fusiliers, detected the incoming Regulars and deployed to engage them. Included in the Fusiliers was Captain Ceallach Munro's Reconnaissance Company, also heavy on Locusts. The Ninth’s staging area was discovered and Munro began preparing an ambush; the Regulars' Locust lance detected them. A running battle broke out between the two recon companies, pitting BattleMechs that typically shun direct combat against each other. With his superior knowledge of the terrain, Munro maneuvered the Regulars into Sangborn Forest, a dense woods in the mountains above the Maltex Corporation factory ruins. By purposefully causing several avalanches, Munro was able to drive off the Regulars' recon elements. From their commanding high ground position, Munro was then able to direct devastating artillery and air strikes, which forced the Regulars off Errai.[1]
