Bankalachi Flat is a short story by Bryan Young that was published as introductory fiction for Hot Spots: Hinterlands.
Plot Summary
The Twenty-first Centauri Peregrine Lancers have signed a contract to defend the small mining settlement Aniki on Baker 3 against attacks from pirates or other potential threats. Due to further obligations, the Peregrine Lancers can only spare two BattleMechs, a Coyotl C piloted by Captain Rosin Douglas and a JM6-DG JagerMech from MechWarrior Ayush Malendra. Aniki consists of the settlement and a small DropPort both located on top of a massive rock column that can only be reached by a single road. The geographic location makes it easy to defend, with several anti-aircraft guns additionally at the ready.
On 3 February 3152, a DropShip of the Shadowblacks' pirate group descends near Aniki and deploys a lance of light 'Mechs augmented by a single aerospace fighter. The 'Mech lance consists of a Commando, a Jenner and two unspecified FrankenMechs under command of Captain Clara Shadows.
