Aron Kirzak was the commanding officer of the Eleventh Ghost Regiment during the War of 3039 and later served as a senior officer in the Pesht Military District.[2][1]
History
On 20 September 3039, Tai-sa Kirzak lead the Eleventh and Twelfth Ghost Regiments in the liberation of the world of Matar from the occupying forces of the Federated Suns. While the invasion would ultimately meet with success, an unfortunate jump accident during the journey to Matar cost Kirzak a JumpShip and two DropShips even before the battle began. Kirzak began the fighting proper when he occupied the main airports of the Capricia-Inness-Tellein Tri-Cities, although the swarm of grateful Draconis Combine citizens that greeted his arriving troops soon blocked traffic and bought time for an enemy counterattack to prevent the Eleventh and Twelfth Ghosts from linking up. Krizak's Eleventh Ghosts fought a fierce urban battle against the First Kestrel Grenadiers for weeks, until an ever-increasing amount of partisan attacks forced the FedSuns to pull out from the Tri-Cities on 6 October. Kirzak would spend another three days providing what aid he could to the people of the Tri-Cities before using his DropShips to avoid the First Kathil Uhlans and place the Kestrel Grenadiers under siege.[2]
While the Kathil Uhlans were left cut off from their supply lines by Kirzak's maneuvers, they still struck at the Ghosts' flanks often enough to prevent the defeat of the Kestrel Grenadiers. On 14 October, the FedSuns received orders to withdraw from Matar just as Major General Cabrian Pintelo of the Twenty-third Federation Primary Relief Infantry Brigade launched a counterattack with the intent of freeing the entrenched Grenadiers. Pintelo's plan failed to achieve its objective and instead delayed the FedSuns force's evacuation from Matar for several weeks. Only the arrival of heavy spring rains forced Kirzak to withdraw his troops from the front lines, giving the occupiers enough time to begin organizing their lengthy retreat process. By 10 December, the last hostile forces had left Matar and Kirzak's Ghosts had accomplished their mission.[2]
Following the War of 3039, the officers and warriors of the Ghost regiments faced significant amounts of prejudice from other members of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery due to their reputation for being criminals and malcontents. Kirzak's victory during the war demonstrated a skilled grasp of strategy, something the Combine desperately needed in its officers, but years passed before he finally received a promotion. In 3045, Kirzak attained the rank of Sho-sho and a position in the Pesht Military District's administrative staff, although this transfer was entirely perfunctory. Kirzak's first real promotion came in 3047, when Tai-sho Tomoe Sakade—wife of Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita—had him assigned as her deputy in the Kagoshima Prefecture.[1][3][4]
This assignment gave Kirzak responsibility for the defense of numerous worlds, including the Combine capital of Luthien, and many saw this as an attempt to insult the DCMS' traditionalist factions. Kirzak served with distinction during this period and became a close advisor to Sakade and Kanrei Kurita, ultimately leading to him quietly receiving command of the Pesht Prefecture following Sakade's transfer to command of the Pesht Military District.[1][5]
