Formed in the period between the First and Second Succession War on the then still prosperous world of An Ting, the An Ting Legions have a history of honored service to the Combine and are closely linked to the An Ting Academy.
History
In the Second Succession War, the An Ting Legions served much the same purpose as the Proserpina Hussars, earning the same respect and glory. The An Ting Legion originally consisted of five regiments and their attached forces. As the Second War wore on and the Legion suffered several major defeats, the five regiments of the brigade dwindled to just two.[1]
Throughout their history, the An Ting Legions received direct replacements from the An Ting Academy. The consolidation of the destroyed Legions to the remaining Second and Fourth Legions allowed the two to survive, though only barely. As the world of An Ting declined throughout the Third Succession War, so did the fortunes of the Legion. Some in the DCMS thought this was only appropriate as the Academy got into a feud with the Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy.[1] An attack by the Sun Zhang Academy and the Federated Suns on the world and academy continued the decline. Without a proper connection to a district, the An Ting Legion was a Free-Floating Regiment as of 3025.[3]
The Jihad saw the effective destruction of An Ting due to quarantine. The effects of this quarantine, and how it would affect the Legions were unclear, but rumors suggested the DCMS would not be rebuilding any of the destroyed An Ting Legion.[4] As the DCMS rebuilt from the losses taken, the An Ting Legion fell somewhere between the second and third tier of units when it came to replacements and supplies. Because of the smaller size of the An Ting Legion compared to the Regulars, the Legion found themselves a lower priority for rebuilding than the Regulars but were accorded considerably more support than the Ghost Regiments or the Legions of Vega.[5]
The An Ting Legion shares the fate of the Galedon Regulars by bearing the name of worlds lost during the Jihad. In An Ting's case, the population managed through the plague while the rest of the Combine looked on and kept the planet quarantined.[6]
The Procurement Department treats the regiments with little respect, and so the units are consistently in decline.[3][1]
