The Thirty-ninth Royal Brigade was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army.
History
Formed as a part of the Thirteenth Royal Division during the creation of the SLDF, the Thirty-ninth Royal Brigade was a part of V Corps during Operation UNION HOLD, the five-year campaign to conquer the Outworlds Alliance. The Thirty-ninth Royal Brigade served as a part of the Outworlds Alliance Task Force from the start of the operation in 2581 until peace was declared with the Treaty of Cerberus in 2585.[1]
The Thirty-ninth was stationed on Pondicherry when the invasion of the Alliance began and was deployed forward to pacify the population of Bad News in 2581,[2] before deploying to Haynesville in 2582 as reinforcements to the Thirty-seventh Royal Brigade, only to discover that the Thirty-seventh Royal had surrendered to the Outworlds Alliance forces. This stunning defeat of a Royal Brigade led to dire retributions from the commanding officer of the Outworlds Alliance Task Force, General Amos Forlough, and led to a number of senior officers within V Corps being replaced and the Thirty-ninth Royal Brigade joining the remaining V Corps forces in sitting out of combat operations for months due to Forlough's lack of confidence in V Corps.[1][3]
The Thirty-ninth saw active combat twice in 2583 after being mustered on Ki Zoban along with the majority of V Corps; the Thirty-ninth was one half of a two-brigade raiding party that that attacked Morthac and then Banori in 2583 on seek and destroy raids as a part of General Amos Forlough's plan to defeat the will and ability of the Alliance to resist by attacking civilian populations and industries.[4]
The Thirty-ninth spent 2584 on Groveld III before being deployed onto Cerberus to take over from the II Corps units which had been redeployed to the Taurian Concordat front, and spent the remainder of the war locked in a grinding battle for control of this important industrial world.[1] After the war, the Thirty-ninth Brigade and the bulk of V Corps formed the major part of the Outworlds Alliance Army of Occupation, establishing bases alongside the new Star League administration offices on each of the Outworlds Alliance worlds.[5]
