Unrelated to the famous Regulan Hussars command, the Rolling Thunder was a mercenary unit known to be active in the years immediately prior to the Clan Invasion.[1]
History
Intentionally or unintentionally using the same name as the Principality of Regulus' Rolling Thunder Company, the Rolling Thunder were one of a number of smaller mercenaries who were paradoxically employed by the Draconis Combine in the 3040's despite Coordinator Takashi Kurita's infamous "Death to Mercenaries" edict. Even with the Combine's public "anti-mercenary" stance, the Coordinator's son and Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita held more pragmatic views. Making use of contracts subsidized by ComStar as part of Operation ROSEBUD and secretly routed through Matabushi Incorporated to mask them from the Coordinator and his hardliner supporters, small units of "independent contractors" like the Rolling Thunder were employed for minor missions such as pirate hunting or garrison duty on interior worlds which would unwittingly place them right in the path of the attacking Clan invaders.[1]
As of July 3050 the Rolling Thunder were stationed Savinsville when the planet came under attack during Clan Smoke Jaguar's third invasion wave. Initially the Smoke Jaguars believed the planet to be defended by real Rolling Thunder reported on by Wolf's Dragoons, and so saKhan Sarah Weaver herself personally led the Shroud Keshik in the attack. Much to her disappointment, the Rolling Thunder they found was a two-bit unit which was simply using the same name. Within minutes of the Shroud Keshik's landing they engaged the mercenaries at Blue Ridge Valley and completely routed them.[2]
