The Nation of Hastur was one of the Pentagon Powers, a collection of warlord states living in the ruins of the Star League in Exile. Hastur occupied a portion of Arcadia's western continent.[1]

History

The Nation of Hastur originated from a Terran Hegemony nationalist faction during the Pentagon Civil War. West Arcadia, the continent the nation made its home on, had been the world's bread basket and was sparsely populated at the time of the civil war's outbreak. This meant Hastur was both spared the nuclear exchange that wiped out most of Arcadia's cities and possessed vast amounts of fertile land. Dominanting West Arcadia meant that Hastur was both the oldest and most powerful state on the planet. Hastur's most loyal families were considered aristocrats and lived privileged lives within the inner portion of the capital, Cyaegha, while the majority of the population lived in near-famine conditions. Hastur was unable to patrol the entirety of its claimed borders, so deep raids between the nation and its neighbours were a regular occurrence.[1] The poor treatment of Hastur's peasants meant many of them hoped to be conquered by the nearby Ilkasur Shogunate, which regularly drew the two into combat.[2]

As the Clans launched Operation Klondike, the Nation of Hastur was occupied with transporting a massive convoy of raw materials and food across the Aeschel Plateau. The convoy was close enough to the Clans intended drop zone that when Clan Ghost Bear, who were assigned as the first wave, instead chose to divert their DropShips to Cyaegha its guards were able to scramble fighters and engage the descending Star Adders, causing significant losses. After reconstituting, the Adders were able to capture the convoy and begin a methodical drive across Hasturian territory.[1]

Meanwhile, the Bears placed Cyaegha under siege. The Bears smashed through the city's outer slums, setting them ablaze and driving the inhabitants of the city behind its inner walls. The Bears made two unsuccessful assaults due to mishaps and the arrival of Hastur reinforcements, but their third attempt captured whole of the city and finished off Hastur's miltiary, though the Bears and Adders would continue mopping up Hastur settlements for the next six weeks.[1]

In the aftermath of the conquest, the Clans executed Chief Minister Niron Hastur after he continued to agitate for resistance against the invaders despite his captivity. The Clans were harsh on Hastur's ruling class, executing or punishing many for their corruption and forcing those they spared to labour rebuilding their settlements like common peasants. Seeing their oppressors treated this way, in addition to receiving free food and medicine from the clan occupiers, meant that average resident of Hastur welcomed the clans as liberators.[1]
