Overview

The Moonwolf, named for the crescent-shaped blaze on the right of the species' head, is a light gray-brown and elusive native of Tharkad.[1]

Over eons, many Tharkan prey evolved infrared senses to combat their hunters at night. Most carnivores responded by altering their hunting time or becoming scavengers. The moonwolf's genetic ancestors gained the ability to lower their surface temperature and avoid detection. This ability makes them very difficult to track, even with advanced military night vision equipment. The clever, shy moonwolf avoids human contact, and so much of their behavior and range remains unconfirmed. Their tracks are also easily confused with otherwise "normal" introduced Terran wolves.[1]

Several LIC special forces units use the moonwolf in their insignia.[1]
