Ekaterina Orloff was a notable officer in the First Orloff Grenadiers during the Dark Age Era.[1]
History
In August 3141, elements of the Fourteenth Regulan Hussars snuck onto the world of Elektrougli to overthrow the planetary government following an unsuccessful pro-Regulus coup. When Elektrougli's president requested assistance with freeing the capital city, the First Orloff Grenadiers were assigned the task. Lieutenant Orloff and her lance provided effective harassment attacks against the Fourteenth Hussars' rear lines, with the lighter BattleMechs piloted by her lancemates weakening foes for her to demolish. The Regulans elected to retreat after several days of combat and raced through the hills of the Casmanian region to meet up with their DropShips, all while Orloff's lance continued to harry their rear. When a lance of Hussars Trebuchets positioned themselves atop Hill 27A and began slamming LRM missiles onto the First Grenadiers' vanguard, Orloff personally lead her lance in the charge up the hill. After a death from above attack placed her in the middle of the Trebuchet formation, Orloff tore apart the smaller 'Mechs with deadly accurate PPC and SRM fire, combined with blows from her 'Mech's hatchet.[2][3]
Holovid footage of Orloff's massacre of the Trebuchet lance spread throughout both the reunified Free Worlds League Military and the rest of the Inner Sphere.[2][3] While her actions on Elektrougli earned her a promotion to the rank of captain and the admiration of the Duchy of Oriente's media, Ekaterina was decidedly unhappy about the attention it drew from her cousin, Duke Orloff. Duke Orloff's efforts to arrange a marriage for Ekaterina within the Free Worlds League's political landscape lead her to advocate for conflict with the Lyran Commonwealth, as it was her hope that battle against their ancestral enemy would distract her cousin from interfering with her personal affairs.[1]
