Conroy Baden-Powell was the Planetary Governor of Breed during the War of 3039.[1]
History
Major General Baden-Powell, commanding the Raman Draconis March Militia, was stationed on Raman in 3025.[2]
By 3039, Baden-Powell had earned a promotion to general and was made the governor of Breed. On 15 July, Breed was invaded by the Draconis Combine's Third and Fourth Ghost Regiments and the invaders quickly began launching hit-and-run attacks against the defending First NAIS Cadre and Second Robinson Rangers. The speed of the enemy force and the confusion sown by their constant, unpredictable attacks caused the Federated Suns' defending troops to believe they were facing a numerically superior foe. Baden-Powell believed that his two BattleMech regiments and ten conventional regiments were fully capable of dealing with the invaders and ordered them to take offensive action, resulting in two stalemates and one devastating defeat. When the forces defending the Hebroun Military Complex were outmaneuvered and nearly destroyed, the Ghost Regiments walked off with thousands of tons of materiel—and the Second Robinson Rangers lost a quarter of their troops, crippling the unit's morale.[1]
Baden-Powell ordered the First NAIS and Second Rangers to retreat to Robinson in order to repair themselves and bring back reinforcements, although several companies of MechWarriors volunteered to stay behind and continue defending Breed. After another eight days of fierce combat, the Fourth Ghost departed for raids against other planets, leaving the Third Ghost to continue raiding Breed for a staggering three months. While Baden-Powell's forces came close to catching the Third Ghost on three separate occasions, only the arrival of Field Marshal James Sandoval with the First and Second Robinson Rangers on 1 November caused the Ghosts to depart from Breed.[1]
