Background Information

This page's purpose is to give the reader of Resurgence an understanding of various concepts. A little bit of how I am thinking, what the universe looks like, etc. I am intending this page to be an easy reference and a bit more blog style, it is likely that I will update this page in the future. This wiki really gives me a chance to keep this more organized than piles of files and folders in other web applications.

Author's Background

I have been an avid Battletech fan for most of my life, even when I didn't even know it was "Battletech". My first introduction was with Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 2 Ghost Bear's Legacy. For some reason I skipped Mechwarrior 3. However, I went all in on Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance, Black Knight, and Mercenaries (including the Clan and IS reinforcement packs). From there I played Mechwarrior on Xbox. My first introduction to tabletop gaming was Mechwarrior Dark Age (clickytech), when my dad showed up at home with a couple boosters and mechs. Prior to this I had never even heard of something physical. I built quite a hefty collection, which I still have, but, when they banned (AKA "retired") the initial sets I stopped playing. I was exhausted of the random draws and spent a lot of money of stuff that could no longer be used in our normal games.

It wasn't until 2014 that I learned Mechwarrior and Battletech were the same thing that Battletech was the original, and that Battletech had been around since the mid 80s. There was a beginner box set and IWM made a plethora of figures. I immediately ran over to a new local store and they had a box, I grabbed it right up, whether the wife was going to be happy with me or not. I fell head over heels crazy about Battletech and went all in, now as an adult with... a credit card haha!

There were some initial small games, then more and more players began joining up over time. Some still play from those first days, some have moved to different states, some have passed, some have brought their kids to play, I have taught many how to play, and overall it has been an incredible experience.

Now, I am building something new, something that will change the Inner Sphere. The Word of Blake is probably my favorite bad guys of any fiction I have enjoyed. I have really set my sights on the facts of how many militia and Shadow Division units vanished after the Jihad as well as there being missing Hidden worlds. I am beyond excited to put the images I have in my head of this "Resurgence" into print so that the Battletech fandom can enjoy the chaos and excitement.

Where does Resurgence exist in the lore?

Resurgence takes place right after Julian Davion takes back New Avalon and the nonsensical vote for the ilClan in the Rasalhague Dominion (which is being retconned).

Tamar Rising never caught my interest so, for the maps, I don't include it because there isn't a major Inner Sphere map that includes the updates at the creation of this fiction. I have no plans to do anything with the faction except to perhaps work them into a write up at some point in the future.

Unless it works within Resurgence, I will also be ignoring future lore produced by the current IP licensee (catalystgamelabs). The canon universe is at a place where it feels like the IP licensee is just going to have some other nonsense happen to get factions to start fighting (like the vote in the Dominion to break up the most powerful faction). They have been very open that in canon the Word of Blake and Homeworld Clans are not going to make an appearance so, there is no external threat in the current IP licensee's future lore.

How does Resurgence progress?

Here on the wiki I will make it as story like as possible. Where all events that take place at roughly the same time are in the same section. There will be various other stories mixed in as well. (Such as Operation Ursus Major being in a different spot to the initial attacks during Hell's Breach in June 3152.)

There are going to be campaign missions as well that will be made available. However, due to the sheer quantity of effort being put into this in my free time, I will likely have that portion on my patreon for now.

Overall, while I like the original Word of Blake's Jihad with the chaos and 'what's really true?' elements, I am not going to go that route. I will provide the reader the actual events and if something is up in the air, it will be clarified for them nearby in the reading.

Understanding the Author's writings

As of right now, I do not have anything published. However, for years I have been creating fan fictions by retelling a Battletech game's events I took part in, by creating campaigns for local players, and by creating entire stories around lances/units that I paint up. I have written about my favorite unit, Shatterstar Trinary, I have a Coalition force from the Jihad, and various other lances, stars, and individual themed stories.

After making all of these writings, I have made sincere efforts to take in feedback about how everything works together. I try to give the reader a very detailed vision of the events going on. This may take away from descriptive elements I could otherwise include, however, players can create their own imaginary view of the world around the characters or the time of day. I will include if the story is in a forest, how big the trees are, describe bizarre wildlife, etc. but, smaller details may be left to the reader's imagination. Even characters, I do not often give many descriptive details so that readers can create their own or see themselves in those roles.

I also want to begin using music to help engross the reader in my writings but, that is something for the future. There are incredible soundtracks of just music where the music itself tells an epic tale and it would fit perfect in Battletech storylines.
