Teaser Text
| “ | Reason tells a commander that soldiers die in combat. But that's not good enough for Captain Andrew Lennox. Even when reason demands otherwise, if something--someone--threatens his men, then that becomes target number one. | ” |
Plot Summary
The mercenary unit Lennox's Light Horse has taken service with the Calderon Protectorate. Fighting against regular Taurian Defense Force forces on Gaul in 3067, they are assigned a young liaison officer whose name Captain Lennox initially fails to remember, but who otherwise turns out a cold and efficient liaison who relentlessly drives the mercenaries forward over the course of the campaign. Subaltern Derek Levin, as it turns out, is in fact the son of Marshal Amanda Revin, commander of the Taurian V Corps (the commanding officer of the enemy forces).
Revin eventually forces a showdown between Lennox's Light Horse and his mother's unit and ends up disabling her 'Mech and demanding her surrender. When she refuses, he kills her.
Afterwards, as Lennox's Light Horse pack up and prepare to leave, Revin admits that his zeal was never about the Baron; he only wanted to counter his mother (for reasons unspecified) and asks Lennox to join his mercenary unit bound for the Inner Sphere.

Notes
- ^ The enddate is not exactly specified but should be 5 or 6 February 3067.
- ^ In 3067, the Taurian V Corps included only one regular TDF unit, the Third Taurian Lancers, suggesting that this was the unit led by Marshal Amanda Revin.
