Unit Description

One of the first 10 Corps of the newly created SLDF, the Star Guard Corps was considered an elite formation. They were tasked with defending the now First Lord, their Court, and the lords of the Star League Council, something they took extremely seriously.[1] There duties were assumed by the I Corps of the Star League Defense Force sometime after the Reunification War [2].

History

Birth of the SLDF

The Star Guard Corps was one of the first initially created formations of the SLDF, created to defend the now First Lord, their Court, and the lords of the Star League Council. The Star Guards initially battled for the best and brightest troops with I Corps, who had now become the premier formation of the SLDF and had assumed responsibility of the defense of Terra. With only one "Royal" command, the Star Guards begrudgingly formed composite regiments from the new forces pulled from throughout the newly formed Star League. The Star Guard very early on became known as an elite formation that not only trained hard, it wouldn't tolerate any disciplinary issues and accepted nothing less than total loyalty to the First Lord and the Star League. The six brigades of the 23rd Division and the 24th Division would each serve as "bodyguard" units, while the 22nd Royal Division was tasked with the defense of Unity City.[1]

Reunification War

After a decade into Reunification War campaign against with the Taurian Concordat, the First Lord would order the entire Star Guard Corps to that front.Leaving only the 64th Royal Brigade behind as the First Lord’s private guard, they deployed with the IV Corps of the SLEF to form the vanguard of a 4 year campaign against the Concordat. Under command of General and Lord Damien Onaga, both Corps spent 2590 preparing to invade the Hyades Cluster with extensive training exercises to get acquainted with zero-g and low-g combat. [3][4].

The start of the campaign it's self wouldn't start until 2 April 2591, where both Corps engaged the Taurians fighting against the mobile weapons platforms the Taurians placed on every asteroid large enough to support them. By mid-2592, the campaign had to rotate additional SLEF units from I, II, III, and XI Corps to maintain the offensive. The Taurian's Outland Gamma battle station would be finally destroyed by the SLEF in 2593, and by August of 2594 all space-based defenses would be eliminated. This would lead to the Taurian's unconditional surrender on 22 September 2594.[3][5]

Notes

  • Force rules can be found in the Historical: Reunification War Source book[8]
  • ^ Sources aren't clear with the dissolution of the Star Guards, however they do go to say that the I Corps took over their duties sometime after the Reunification War. It could be assumed they were disbanded at the end of it.
  • The original sourcebook on the Star League (The Star League) has no references to this formation or if it's history and it's first reference appears in Field Manual: SLDF.
  • The 12th Star Guards has nothing to do with this formation as they were created from regular SLDF units following Aleksandr Kerensky's Exodus.
