As of early 3028, Vernon was a [[lieutenant]] and member of the Light Lance, [[Gene Bray|Bray's Company]] of Able Battalion.<ref name=WDSB/> During the [[Battle of Misery (3028)|Battle of Misery]] however, Vernon disregarded orders from her battalion commander [[Major]] [[Alicia Fancher]], and was demoted to sergeant.

[[Colonel]] [[Jaime Wolf]] investigated the incident privately however, and found Vernon had exercised good judgement.
