Morgain was a member of the [[Preservationists]] (a small planetary organization that grew on Borghese) designed to preserve the way of life and protect the planet from the ravages of the Clan Wars. It was a political unit with some muscle in the form of [[BattleMech]]s,<ref>''Main Event'', pp. 220, 285</ref> with one of the spokespersons wanted to surrender to the [[Clans]] to preserve the planet<ref>''Main Event'', p. 220</ref> and with Hauptmann Salander Morgain as the group's muscle.<ref>''Main Event'', p. 285</ref> His soldiers were beaten by the [[Black Thorns]], with Morgain himself killed in action by his former second-in-command [[Antioch Bell]] after hearing Morgain gloating over his duplicitous plans.<ref>''Main Event'', p. 281</ref> It later came out that Morgain had been a crooked officer and a thief, selling [[AFFC]] supplies on the black market for his own profit, and that he had actually been discharged under less-than-honorable circumstances.<ref>''Main Event'', p. 285</ref>
