Like the other regiments of the [[Andurien Guards]], the '''Ninth Andurien Guard''' was founded to act as a defensive force, taking advantage of heavy equipment to stand up to invaders, in deliberate contrast with the hit-and-run tactics of the sister [[regiment]]s in the [[Andurien Rangers]]. The Ninth was one of the Andurien Guard regiments to be founded during the [[Dark Age]], after the [[Duchy of Andurien]] had seceded from the [[Free Worlds League]] during the [[Jihad]].<ref name=FM:3145p113">''Field Manual: 3145'', p. 113, "Andurien Guard"</ref>

In [[3145]] the Ninth was the newest of the Andurien Guard regiments, having formed from a mix of volunteers and fresh graduates from the [[Humphreys Training Academy]]. Although the Ninth was still working to reach full strength, the [[Andurien Defense Force]] had chosen to deploy the Ninth to [[Shiro III]] in the hopes that protecting the industrial complexes on the planet against pirates might help give the Ninth some experience.<ref name=FM:3145p113"/>
