The defending [[Republic Armed Forces|RAF's]] [[VIII Triarii Protectors|Eighth Triarii Protectors]] CO [[Colonel]] [[Oisín Fegan]] had dug in his forces around the planetary capital of [[Focci's Point]], forming a wall of 'Mechs and [[Combat Vehicle|armor]] in front of artillery batteries. Star Colonel [[Maurice Radick]] realized that the 103rd would not win in a long-distance duel against artillery and ordered a [[trinary]] of ''[[Linebacker]]''s under [[Star Captain]] [[Rhea (103rd Striker)|Rhea]] to reconfigure for close assault and strike the Triarii's flank, relying on their speed to avoid being targeted by the artillery.
