As part of the Fifteenth Deneb Light Cavalry, [[Captain]] Strand participated in a [[pirate]] hunting operation in [[3047]] that tracked its quarry to an uninhabited system located between [[Jonzac]] and [[Verlo]]. Due to the difficult terrain, Strand and three other [[jump jet|jump]]-capable [[MechWarrior (pilot)|MechWarriors]] left the rest of the Fifteenth DLC behind as they hunted for the pirate [[company]]'s base in a large cave complex. Strand's ad hoc [[lance]] charged into the enemy's camp instead of waiting for reinforcements, catching the pirates completely unawares and leading to the elimination of six enemy [[BattleMechs]] before they could be activated. Directing the fire of his comrades, Strand ensured that the pirates were driven into a total rout.<ref name=FMDp112/>
