Often jokingly referred to by skeptics as the "Tin Cans and String project", Hoshiko began recruiting a team in 2615 to investigate possible means of FTL communications. In February of that year Hoshiko enlisted his last team member, [[Cassie DeBurke]], a brilliant young professor from the [[University of Terra]] located near the [[Court of the Star League]].<ref name=TSL-54/><ref name=CS-6/><ref name=ER2750-24/>

DeBurke was an authority on the faster-than-light physics theories of [[Thomas Kearny]] and [[Takayoshi Fuchida]], and after fifteen long years of secret and feverish work DeBurke would develop a means of sending radio waves via artificially generated [[jump point]]s, culminating in the first [[hyperpulse generator]] station, built in [[2629]] just outside the Court of the Star League.
