==History==
As of early 3028, Vernon was a [[lieutenant]] and member of the Light Lance, [[Gene Bray|Bray's Company]] of Able Battalion.<ref name=WDSB/> During the [[Battle of Misery (3028)|Battle of Misery]] however, Vernon disregarded orders from her battalion commander [[Major]] [[Alicia Fancher]], and was demoted to sergeant.

[[Colonel]] [[Jaime Wolf]] investigated the incident privately however, and found Vernon had exercised good judgement. Following the [[Battle of Misery (3028)|Battle of Misery]] therefore, Wolf assigned Vernon to the Command Lance of Beta Regiment's First Provisional Company as a sign of confidence, and arranged for Major Fancher to retire.<ref name=WDSB59>''Wolf's Dragoons'', p. 59</ref>

Vernon was expected to be restored to his former rank, but after suffering disabling injuries during the [[Battle of Crossing (3029)|Battle of Crossing]], was no longer expected to be able to return to active duty.<ref name=WDSB/><ref name=WDSB59/>
